Christies costume series titled Fine feathers, Fine bird’s focuses on exploring the potential of reusing, reworking and re-presenting of everyday materials. Plastic is a common article in our everyday lives and up until recently was taken to landfills to biodegrade at an extremely low rate. In 2009 Europe ended up with a total of 24 tonne of end of year plastics, of which only 13Mtonne was recycled.

Fine feathers, fine Bird’s focuses on creating a contrast between our urban and natural environments using exotic birds made from plastics as a metaphor. The birds are created to represent beautiful creatures that, on closer inspection are made from common disposable plastic objects that are fundamentally affecting the creatures in their natural habitats.

Yesterday me and my classmates finished hanging up our show. After seeing it being done by the other years, it was a surreal experience to be the ones in their position, and now it’s done! Three years of work culminating in two days of banging, hammering, nails, drills, spirit measures, tape.

Our Brighton studio show will be open on the 1st of June to the public, come sea, come see!

Creative folks generally being the garrulous sort, typically, quite a bit of ‘bull’ got tossed around these legendary rooms, so the nickname ‘bullpen’ was a natural…. At any rate, these days, most comics artists and writers prefer to work in their own studios, but, still, here at Marvel, we have a big room, a production bullpen, where all of our art/production people work doing our paste-ups, lettering corrections, art corrections, and such — and even though the editorial folks are bunched in small offices off to the sides we still refer to the whole shebang as the Marvel Bullpen. It’s a tradition dating back to the days when we actually were a one-room operation!”

So last week (mon-fri) I challenged myself to make a zine a day, and here are the results.

Monday - Destroy the Robot: square concertina zine about one astronauts never ending cycle of killing Robots.

Tuesday - The Yards: Saddle bound comic following the lives of Train Drivers of the Jazz Factory.

Wednesday - Citizens of the Jazz Factory: Photocopy collages of characters from the Jazz Factory.

Thursday - Train Men of the Jazz Factory: A5 photocopy zine collecting drawings of the many Train Drivers of the Jazz Factory.

Friday- Hats of The Jazz Factory: A7 one page zine showcasing popular headware of the Jazz Factory with A4 poster on reverse.
